The French man posted the news of his retirement on his official Twitter account on Monday, December 19th, 2022. According to him, he has written his own story, and has made some mistakes in the past which has taken him to where he is.
I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending.
Benzema might look back at his time with France with a bit of disappointment because he was not part of the team that won the 2018 World Cup and was not available for the 2022 World Cup because of an injury.
The 35-year-old had a fantastic year at the club level with Real Madrid winning the La Liga and Champions League. He also clinched the Ballon d’Or award this year to cap his achievements.
J’ai fait les efforts et les erreurs qu’il fallait pour être là où je suis aujourd’hui et j’en suis fier !
