Nigerian Entertainment News: My Life Is Under Threat, Mohbad’s Wife Tells Omowumi Coroner
Cynthia Omowumi Aloba, the surviving spouse of Afrobeat artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, who is popularly known as Mohbad, voiced her apprehensions regarding her personal security to Lagos Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi
This testimony came as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her husband’s demise.
During her appearance at the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, the widow disclosed that she had been receiving continuous death threats subsequent to her husband’s passing.
She went on to reveal;
“I received death threats every day, including on social media. A lot of people are slandering me on ‘TikTok’.
“I left my husband’s house because I am not safe there”,
she said.
In her testimony, Mohbad’s wife detailed the events of Tuesday, September 12, 2023, when her husband passed away in the afternoon in his room.
She explained that before his demise, he had expressed discomfort and had requested the air conditioner in his room to be turned on. When it failed to function, they relocated him to their son’s room.
Omowunmi clarified that she was in the kitchen at the time, and upon her return to the room, she overheard Mohbad asking the nurse to remove the needle and witnessed the nurse administering an injection with a syringe. It was then they rushed him to the hospital.
According to her account, while in the car’s back seat, the driver noticed that Mohbad’s hands had turned cold. She immediately called for a motorcycle, and together with Mohbad’s friend OG, they rushed him to the hospital.
It was at the hospital, in the presence of doctors, nurses, the Disc Jockey, and Mohbad’s brother, that she received the devastating news of his passing. She expressed disbelief, as she had spoken to him just 20 minutes prior, and he had mentioned plans for a five-month photo shoot with their son after his injection.
In her testimony, she revealed that her late husband was supposed to seek treatment for a wound he had sustained during an altercation with Prime Boy.
However, he opted not to go to the hospital due to previous encounters with NDLEA agents and his fear of Azeez Adeshina Fashola, also known as Naira Marley. She claimed that NDLEA members had struck him on the head with the butt of their weapon.
The coroner acknowledged her statements, and a follow-up session has been scheduled for November 15.
