Nigerian Entertainment News: May D Issues Stern Warning Against Comparisons with Wizkid
Nigerian artist Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly recognized as Mr. May D, has sparked heated discussions online following his recent statement addressing fans who liken him to Wizkid, born Ayo Balogun
The “Ile Ijo” hitmaker took to Twitter to assert his influence in the Nigerian music industry, cautioning fans and critics against drawing parallels between him and other musicians, particularly Wizkid.
“Don’t ever compare me to anyone in this industry again !! Especially wiz!! I’m a different breed!!! GOD’s baby,”
May D wrote.
Amid the buzz surrounding his remarks about Wizkid, Mr. May D reminisced about a time when Wizkid performed his song Too Fine alongside Kel.
“I remember when I went to an event and Wizkid was performing my song with kel “too fine” and I was in the crowd I still love him till date but never compare,”
he added.
May D first gained widespread recognition after signing with the now-defunct Square Records, owned by the legendary Psquare, in 2011. However, by August 2012, he had parted ways with the label.
The Ile Ijo singer believes his experiences with Psquare significantly shaped his journey in the music industry.
