Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about her regret regarding her role in advocating for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s remains

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day.

However, on September 21, 2023, his body was exhumed by law enforcement to facilitate an autopsy.

In May 2024, the pathologist who conducted the autopsy revealed that the cause of death could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition. A toxicology report showed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in his system, but not at a fatal level.

During a conversation with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Iyabo Ojo, who had actively sought justice for Mohbad, shared her frustrations and regrets about the turn of events. She lamented the delays caused by the exhumation and the ongoing disputes within Mohbad’s family.

“I did my best. If I knew Mohbad’s case would turn out this way, I wouldn’t have requested that he be exhumed.”

“He hasn’t been buried till now. The dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I hear the court has granted that now but I hear the dad has conditions again.”

Iyabo Ojo explained that her intention behind requesting the exhumation was to uncover the truth about Mohbad’s death and ensure justice prevailed.

However, she admitted that the process became derailed by “endless controversies and distractions.”

She added:

“I just wanted his body exhumed so they could do the autopsy, find out the cause of his death.”

“I did my best to make sure everyone was investigated but when they came up with different theories, DNA became their target and was more important.”

In October 2023, Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, announced that his son would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted on Liam, the late singer’s child. He also called for an investigation into Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.

By December 2023, Omowunmi agreed to the DNA test but requested that it be conducted at three separate medical facilities. She also accused her father-in-law of harassment, both online and offline, and alleged that he was attempting to take control of Mohbad’s estate.

This saga continues to unfold, leaving unresolved tensions in the quest for justice for the late artist.
