Nigerian Entertainment News: “I’m first African artist to receive BET award on stage, not Davido” – Ice Prince
Popular Nigerian rapper and singer, Ice Prince, has clarified that he was the first African artist to receive a BET award on stage, not Davido, as widely believed
In a recent interview on Listening, Ice Prince, who clinched the Best International Act: Africa award in 2013, explained that until then, African winners were presented their awards backstage during the BET ceremony.
He emphasized that he was the one who broke that tradition.
“I am the first African artiste to step on the BET stage and collect an award solo… but for some reason, people give that credit to Davido,”
Ice Prince stated.
Davido, however, made headlines in 2018 when he accepted his Best International Act award on stage, delivering a notable speech where he encouraged more collaborations between African and American artists.
This revelation from Ice Prince has sparked conversations in the Nigerian Entertainment News space, as fans weigh in on the history of African representation at global award platforms.
