Nigerian Entertainment News: “I Was Told to Take My Style of Music Elsewhere,” Rapper Ladipoe Discloses
Hip-hop artist Ladipo Eso, known as Ladipoe, has shared that when he first embarked on his musical journey, he was told he wouldn’t make it in Nigeria
The Mavin Records musician revealed in an interview that some unnamed industry insiders tried to dissuade him by criticizing his musical approach.
Ladipoe stated that they suggested he should move to another part of the world to pursue his music career, but he chose to ignore their advice. Now, all his songs have surpassed his expectations.
The renowned rapper also expressed that while he is proud of how far he has come as an artist, he is still not completely satisfied with his accomplishments so far.
He stated;
“All my songs have exceeded my expectations. When I first started making music, I was told that because of my style, no one would ever listen to my songs here in Nigeria and that I should try elsewhere in the world.”“It is human nature for satisfaction to be elusive. I feel this applies twice as much to creative people, such as artistes like myself. I am grateful but not satisfied.”
In another part of the interview, Ladipoe discussed a moment when he got a disappointing reaction from fans during one of his performances in his early career.
He revealed;
“I remember once, early in my career, I came on stage with so much energy and shouted into the microphone, ‘Who is ready for some more hip-hop’?. Meanwhile, that was a time when hip-hop music was facing serious fluctuation in its appeal.
“The overwhelming response from the crowd was, ‘no’. I remember being so deflated. To make matters worse, my band started off by playing the wrong song first, which further demoralized me. It was terrible. But, I look back now and laugh. I am grateful for growth.”
