Nigerian Entertainment News: “I Have Never Fallen in Love” Ayra Starr Confesses She’s Never Experienced Love
Afrobeats sensation Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, widely known as Ayra Starr, has admitted that she’s “never been in love.”
During a recent conversation with Dazed Magazine, the Grammy-nominated artist opened up about her personal life.
Though often viewed as a “romantic,” Ayra confessed she has yet to experience a serious relationship.
The 21-year-old Mavin Records star shared that her commitment to music, which began when she was just 15, has played a major role in keeping her single. Now, she feels ready to explore romance.
“I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was. I am a lover girl deep in my heart, I’m just very strong headed about it. I actually have never been in love. I have been in certain situations – not situationships! – but I have never been in a fully committed relationship.”
“I’ve put myself out there and I’ve tried to see what’s there but I don’t think I’ve had the time. I’ve been working since I was 15, I was modelling, I was doing university, and now I’m on the road.
“It’s me just enjoying myself as a girl. I’m like, let me sing to a cute boy today and I’m looking around because I can – why not?”
In a similar revelation earlier in June, Nigerian music icon Tems shared that she too has never experienced love. She also reflected on her struggles with body dysmorphia at the start of her career.
Tems praised Ayra Starr’s work ethic and hinted at a possible collaboration in the future.
Both Ayra Starr and Tems are leading figures in the Nigerian music industry, achieving international acclaim with numerous awards and a vast global fanbase.
Ayra Starr shot to fame with her viral hit ‘Bloody Samaritan,’ which debuted in 2021, along with her album ‘The Year I Turned 21.’ That same year, she released her debut studio album “19 and Dangerous,” featuring hits like “Away,” “Rush,” and “Bloody Samaritan,” which was later remixed with American star Kelly Rowland.
