Nigerian Entertainment News: Court Rejects N500m Copyright Lawsuit Against Kcee and E-Money
A lawsuit seeking N500 million in damages for copyright infringement against popular Nigerian artist Kcee, his brother and businessman E-Money, and their label Five Star Music Limited has been dismissed
The federal high court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Kehinde Ogundare, ruled on the matter on Monday. The court determined that Jude Nnam, the claimant, failed to present convincing evidence to support his accusations of copyright violation.
Jude Nnam, a renowned Nigerian composer, accused Kcee of secretly incorporating his tracks ‘Som Too Chukwu’, ‘Otito Diri Chineke’, and ‘K’ Anyi Jee N’ Ulo Chukwu’ into Kcee’s album Cultural Praise Vol. 1 without permission.
Nnam sought a legal declaration stating that Kcee, E-Money, and Five Star Music collectively infringed upon his copyright by producing and distributing the songs without proper authorization.
Additionally, he demanded the cessation of further infringement and compensation for all royalties earned from the disputed tracks.
