Nigerian Entertainment News: Ayra Star Claims Best African Music Act at the 2025 MOBO Awards
Ayra Star has emerged victorious in the Best African Music Act category at the 2025 MOBO Awards, surpassing fellow Nigerian stars Asake and Tems, as well as South Africa’s Tyla.
This win makes her the first female to take home the award in 16 years. The Nigerian sensation also won the Best International Music Act accolade during the event held in Newcastle.
Ayra’s triumph in the Best International Act category was no easy feat, as she competed with global icons such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, Tems, and Latto.
The prestigious event, hosted by Indiyah Polack and Eddie Kadi, celebrated the best in Black music and culture.
In her emotional acceptance speech, Ayra Star, clearly excited by her success, shared, “This is my first MOBO, and my first time winning a MOBO Award—make some noise! I’m actually shaking right now. I’m genuinely nervous.”
“Thank you so much to everybody who supported me. Thank you to my team—my amazing MOB-STARS.
“My amazing brothers who make music with me—the producers in the studio—my studio partners in crime; my label—MAVINS record, Embryo, my mummy…
“Thank you so much. Thank you, MOBOs.”
