Nigerian Entertainment News: Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ Shatters Records with Massive Spotify Nigeria Debut
On August 9, 2024, Asake unveiled his third studio album, Lungu Boy, which features an impressive lineup including Grammy-winning Nigerian icon Wizkid, UK rap stars Central Cee and Stormzy, American sensation Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmila
Lungu Boy has set a groundbreaking milestone on Spotify Nigeria, achieving the highest opening week ever with 15.47 million streams in just five days.
This feat surpasses the previous record of 14.4 million streams held by Davido’s Timeless.
The album’s success is further highlighted by its rapid overtaking of Rema’s HEIS, securing the title for the largest opening week on Spotify Nigeria in 2024 within only four days.
In addition, Lungu Boy set a new benchmark for the most global streams on the first day for a Nigerian album on Spotify, amassing 9.2 million plays.
The album’s second track, ‘MMS’, broke another record by garnering 870,577 streams on its first day on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing the previous record of 626,000 streams set by Wizkid’s ‘IDK’ featuring Zlatan.
Lungu Boy has also made waves internationally, tying the record for the highest-charting Nigerian album on Apple Music US, a record previously shared by Wizkid’s S2 EP, Burna Boy’s I Told Them, and Davido’s Timeless.
The album reached the top spot on the Apple Music UK chart as well, marking Asake’s third album to do so, following Mr. Money With The Vibe and Work of Art.
With Lungu Boy, Asake continues his streak of hit releases, solidifying his position at the zenith of success in Nigerian entertainment.
