Kalvin Phillips completes £45m Man City transfer and leaves Leeds United
The arrival of England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips has further strengthened Manchester City’s squad after they moved for Erling Haaland earlier in the summer.
England midfielder Kalvin Phillips has completed his move to Manchester City in a deal worth around £45m, joining on a six-year deal.
It ends the 26-year-old’s time at Leeds United, where he began his career. The Leeds-born star began his career at his hometown club and helped them reach – and stay in – the Premier League.
Phillips is City’s third senior signing of the transfer window. Erling Haaland has joined in a big-money move from Borussia Dortmund, while City also a dded goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to their ranks.
“It’s one of the main reasons I wanted to come to City, to improve my game in loads of different ways,” Phillips, who will take the number four shirt previously worn by Vincent Kompany, told mancity.com in his first interview as a City player.
“It’s hard for me to say right now how I’m going to play a role in the team because it’s very difficult to come into a team of eighteen superstars.
“I’m looking forward to just getting to know the boys and getting my feet firmly on the ground and work from there. I did play in the Euros final and to be honest the nerves didn’t really hit me when I was playing it, it was more after that how big the game was.
“I deal very well with situations like that, I think I’m pretty suited to playing big games,” he continued. I”’ve not experienced many of them but hopefully this season I will do.”
Leeds, meanwhile, have given thanks to the long-serving midfielder for his work on and off the field.
“He will always be a champion in Leeds, remembered for playing his part in getting the club back to where it belongs and will always be welcome at Elland Road,” a statement on the club website reads.
