Nigerian Entertainment News: Burna Boy Calls Nigerians ‘Collateral Damage’ in Viral Interview
In a recent interview, globally acclaimed Afro-fusion artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, shared his thoughts on Nigeria and its formation
Speaking with Tidal, the African Giant delved into how the nation’s vast cultural diversity has been a roadblock to its progress
Burna Boy highlighted that Nigeria was initially seen by the British as merely a business venture.
He explained that the territory, now known as Nigeria, was originally referred to as the Niger Area before being taken over by the Royal Niger Company.
He further noted that the Royal Niger Company, upon gaining control, decided to merge the northern and southern regions instead of governing them independently, which ultimately led to the creation of Nigeria.
The Afro-fusion icon emphasized that during this process, both the Niger Company and the British who facilitated the transaction overlooked the local populations, treating them as collateral damage.
