Renowned TV host Wendy Williams has been deemed “permanently incapacitated” following her public diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia and aphasia earlier this year.

According to newly surfaced court records obtained by The US Sun, the 60-year-old icon’s health has significantly declined, as detailed by her legal representatives and guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.

The documents describe Williams as “a celebrated entertainer who has unfortunately been afflicted with early-onset dementia, leaving her cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”

The filing further reveals that, due to a “series of alarming incidents regarding Wendy’s well-being and financial matters,” banking giant Wells Fargo made the unusual move to establish guardianship over her financial assets in January 2022.

This latest legal filing emerges as part of a contentious court battle over Lifetime’s documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?. The request seeks to have certain sensitive details about Wendy’s “health, personal relationships, and finances” omitted to protect her privacy.

The two-part Lifetime documentary, which delves into concerns about Williams’ health and the effects of her struggles with alcohol addiction, has faced pushback since its planned premiere in February. Initially, Morrissey sought to block the documentary’s release, arguing it violated Wendy’s privacy. However, the request was overruled, with the court citing it as an “unconstitutional restriction of free speech.”

An amended complaint was filed against Lifetime and its production teams in September, and the case transitioned from the New York Supreme Court to federal court in October.

Ahead of the documentary’s release, Wendy’s medical team issued a detailed statement updating the public on her health. The statement acknowledged her transparency over the years about medical issues like Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema, as well as other serious health-related challenges.

“Over the past few years, questions have been raised at times about Wendy’s ability to process information and many have speculated about Wendy’s condition, particularly when she began to lose words, act erratically at times, and have difficulty understanding financial transactions.

“In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).”

The statement added that the condition presented Williams with “significant hurdles in [her] life”

It concluded: “The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances.”
