American Entertainment News: Grammy Nominee Slowthai Faces Trial Over Alleged Assault
British rapper and Grammy-nominated artist, Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Kaymone Frampton, appeared in court today alongside his popstar wife, Anne-Marie.
The rapper is set to stand trial over allegations of assault involving a woman in Oxford on September 8, 2021.
The charges, which Slowthai vehemently denies, stem from an incident that reportedly took place after his performance at the prestigious Bullingdon Club, linked to the University of Oxford.
Frampton remains confident that his innocence will be proven, stating he is “certain” his name will be cleared of the accusations.
The trial, originally scheduled for May, is now set to commence tomorrow.
A co-defendant, Alex Blake-Walker, is also facing similar charges. Both Frampton and Blake-Walker have denied the allegations.
Today, the jury, consisting of eight men and four women, was sworn in ahead of the proceedings. Judge Ian Pringle instructed the jurors to refrain from discussing the case with anyone, conducting any research, or consuming media coverage related to the trial.
‘This case may attract some publicity. If it does, please remember a reporter’s report is just their view of the case,’ he said.
‘What matters is what you make of the evidence in the case. Try not to read, listen or watch any reports if it does come about.
‘Remember it is your view of the case that matters.’
The trial is expected to span up to three weeks, with the court emphasizing the importance of impartiality and reliance on presented evidence.
