American Entertainment News: Ariana Grande Gets Emotional Addressing ‘Harmful’ Comments on Weight Loss and Appearance
American singer, songwriter, and actress Ariana Grande recently broke down in tears while confronting ‘harmful’ remarks about her weight loss and appearance
During a promotional interview for the highly anticipated film Wicked alongside co-star Cynthia Erivo, the 31-year-old star was asked by French influencer and journalist Sally how she manages criticism of her physical appearance.
The question visibly moved Grande, as she paused to gather herself, with Cynthia, 37, offering a reassuring touch. “Wow… That’s a great question,” Ariana began.
“I’ve basically been in the public eye, almost like an experiment in a lab, since I was 16 or 17. So, I’ve heard every critique imaginable,” she shared.
“People always seem to find something wrong with you. And when you change or ‘fix’ it, suddenly that’s also an issue. This extends even to the simplest aspects—your looks. Growing up and hearing those things can be really overwhelming.”
Grande explained how challenging it is to shield herself from the constant scrutiny. “It’s tough to block out that noise, and it doesn’t matter how big or small the platform is—criticism about appearance is always uncomfortable and unsettling.”
She added that such remarks are difficult to handle, even when they come from loved ones. “It doesn’t matter if it’s at Thanksgiving dinner and your grandma says, ‘Oh, you look thinner! What’s going on?’ or ‘You’ve put on weight, what happened?’ It’s awful and inappropriate regardless of the setting or scale.”
The Positions singer criticized society’s tendency to make unsolicited comments about others’ looks, health, or personal lives. “There’s a level of comfort people have now with commenting on someone else’s body, face, or overall presentation. It’s not okay. It’s intrusive and often damaging.”
Grande labeled this casual commentary as “dangerous,” emphasizing its harmful impact on everyone involved.
“There’s a dangerous level of comfort people have with commenting on someone else’s appearance, and I think it’s harmful on every level,” she said.
The actress also shared how she’s learned to shut out such negativity. “I no longer allow that kind of criticism to occupy space in my life. I’ve got so much to focus on—my work, my friends, my happiness. That kind of noise is not welcome anymore.”
She encouraged others to take steps to protect their mental well-being from unwarranted opinions. “Whether it’s at a family gathering or online, don’t hesitate to do whatever you need to stay safe—delete the app, walk away, or shut it down. Nobody has the right to make you feel less than.”
This heartfelt conversation follows growing concern among fans about Ariana’s recent slender appearance, with many expressing worry over her seemingly frail look.
