2024 GRAMMYs: Davido Faces Disappointment As Three Grammy Nominations Nods Result In Zero Victories
Famous Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, widely recognized as Davido, encountered defeat across all three sections in which he received nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards
Davido’s track ‘Feel’ contended for the Best Global Music Performance, ‘Timeless’ vied for Album of the Year, and ‘Unavailable’ sought recognition in the Best African Music Performance category. Regrettably, he failed to secure victory in any of these categories.
Just before the ceremony, Davido expressed in an interview with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly at the Pre-Grammy event that he would indulge in exuberant celebrations if he bagged the Best African Music Performance award. Despite his enthusiasm, the accolade went to South African rapper Tyla for her song ‘Water.’
Davido had stated,
“I am just happy that we all get to shine. What if there was no (African) category? So, at the end of the day, we should all be happy that we have this category, something to call our own. Whoever wins, it’s okay. If I win, we are celebrating. We go crazy.”
He added that the African Music Category at the premier global music award was long overdue.
